  • What is your role within the program?
"Program Coordinator, since inception 1 year ago; Senior Physical Therapist."

  • What separates this program from others like it?
"Unique on the Central Coast MSJ+OCS is a program dedicated to the advanced education and mentorship of PT colleagues with two Fellowship-trained faculty. We also have an in-house physician group that will provide medical mentorship in the form of observation hours for various orthopaedic cases and disciplines. We have alliances with two Northern California ballet companies with which we will collaborate for community service and potential research projects. Our 10,000 sq-ft facility incorporates state of the art equipment and contemporary sports medicine approaches to active rehabilitation, using the latest in evidence to drive practice decisions."

  • Why do you think advanced orthopedic training through residency and fellowship is important?
"While controversial in general PT circles, amongst veteran clinicians who have a long view on the profession, residency training provides a necessary fast track to clinical proficiency. There are enough options available through the multitude of programs providing free tuition in exchange for reduced (but well-paying) salaries with benefits that early professionals need not worry about losing out in the cost-benefit analysis of specialization. Evidence is mounting to point to the real-world financial and clinical advantages of specialization to communities and the profession, writ large."

  • Please share a little-known, fun fact that others may be surprised to learn about you.
"I can solve a Rubik's cube in under 2 minutes. My son can do it in 45 seconds."
