New Clinical Practice Guideline: Hip Pain and Mobility Deficits—Hip Osteoarthritis (Revision 2025)

APTA Orthopedics, in collaboration with the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy, is pleased to announce the publication of the updated Clinical Practice Guideline for Hip Pain and Mobility Deficits—Hip Osteoarthritis (Revision 2025).

This evidence-based guideline provides updated recommendations for physical therapist management of hip osteoarthritis, supporting improved clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. The 2025 revision includes new research and refined guidance on:

  • Manual therapy techniques to improve mobility and reduce pain

  • Individualized strengthening, flexibility, and endurance programs

  • The use of dry needling for short-term symptom relief

  • Patient education strategies to support exercise adherence and weight management

  • Functional, gait, and balance training interventions

This revision represents the most current synthesis of research to guide orthopedic and sports physical therapists in the evidence-based management of hip OA.
