Scott Burns, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT

Scott Burns, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT is an Associate Professor, Director of the DPT program, and Interim Chair for the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences within the College of Public Health at Temple University. Dr. Burns received his Master of Science in Physical Therapy and his transitional DPT degree from the University of Colorado in 2005 and 2006, respectively. In 2009, he became a board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). In 2016, he began his PhD at the University of Newcastle (Australia) investigating the role of the hip in individuals with low back pain (anticipated completion in 2021). In 2010, he was recognized for teaching excellence with the Outstanding Teacher Award for the College of Public Health. Dr. Burns has 13 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 6 book chapters, and 26 peer-reviewed platforms/posters at national conferences. At Temple University, Dr. Burns teaches primarily in the musculoskeletal tract and orthopaedic residency.

Heather Christain, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS is an ABPTS board-certified clinical specialist in both sports and orthopaedics and works as an outpatient physical therapist at Rally Physical Therapy in Highland Park, IL. She attended the University of Iowa where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and her DPT. She is an associated faculty and contract educator for the DPT Program at Northwestern University in the Musculoskeletal Course Series. Mary K. Derrick, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT

Mary K. Derrick, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT is a PhD candidate in the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Derrick studies the acquisition of pain beliefs in health providers and is a Research Assistant for the College of Health while teaching musculoskeletal physical therapy. Dr. Derrick is also adjunct faculty in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. In addition to entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy instruction, Mary has taught in a variety of residency and fellowship programs. Clinically, Dr. Derrick focuses her practice treating patients with persistent pain as part of multidisciplinary pain programs. She also has expertise in the adaptation of manual therapy techniques for various providers' sizes including those who are outsized by their patients. She obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Texas State University in 2013 and graduated from the Evidence in Motion Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship program in 2016. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and is a board-certified orthopaedic clinical specialist.

Mark Dutton, PT received his bachelor of science degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. During his career he has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings including inpatient, home health, extended care, and outpatient facilities. Mark was the Regional Director for the Allegheny Health System, Pittsburgh for approximately 20 years. As an author, Mark has authored numerous physical therapy textbooks covering orthopaedics, patient skills, and the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE). William (Bill) Egan, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT

William (Bill) Egan, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT is a physical therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. He graduated from the US-Army Baylor Program in Physical Therapy in 1999. Bill is a board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). He has served as a core faculty member in the department of physical therapy at Temple University for the past 13 years. He is an Associate Professor with the primary role of instruction within the DPT program, providing instruction in the musculoskeletal management course sequence, the advanced musculoskeletal elective, diagnostic imaging, evidence-based practice, and clinical pain sciences. In 2010, he was recognized for teaching excellence with the Outstanding Teacher Award for the College of Public Health. Bill is the director of the Temple Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program. He has delivered conference presentations and written book chapters and research articles. Bill provides post-professional continuing education to physical therapists on the topics of orthopedic manual physical therapy and the management of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

Mia Erickson, PT, EdD, CHT, ATC

Mia Erickson, PT, EdD, CHT, ATC received a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Athletic Training from West Virginia University and a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Indianapolis. She received a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from West Virginia University. She is currently a Professor and Assistant Chairperson of the Physical Therapy Department in Glendale, AZ. Dr. Erickson's research and clinical practice have been in the areas of hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. She is the primary author on the APTA's Clinical Practice Guideline for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, has 2 book chapters in the 7th edition of the Rehabilitation of the Hand and Upper Extremity, and is a contributor for the IFSHT REACH newsletter. She presents regularly at national meetings and enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills with other colleagues and students.

Kai-Yu Ho, PT, MSPT, PhD

Kai-Yu Ho, PT, MSPT, PhD received her bachelors and masters’ degrees in Physical Therapy from the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan in 2002 and 2004. After practicing for approximately 3 years in sports physical therapy, she came to the Unites States to pursue her PhD, which she completed in Biokinesiology at the University of Southern California in December 2012. She joined the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she is currently an Associate Professor, in August 2013. She is an author of more than 20 scientific publications. Dr. Ho’s research is primarily focused on understanding the potential biomechanical factors and imaging markers associated with degenerative joint diseases. One area of Dr. Ho’s current research is to examine temporomandibular joint dysfunction with the use of diagnostic imaging. Using ultrasound imaging, Dr. Ho has documented the improvement in joint space in a case with temporomandibular joint ankylosis after physical therapy intervention. Her recent work also establishes the association between arthrokinematics and osteokinematics of the temporomandibular joint, which provides the foundation for physical therapy practice.

Sally Ho, PT, DPT, MS, OCS received her B.S. degree in Physical Therapy from the National Taiwan University, Taiwan; her M.S. degree in Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia; and her advanced doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California, California. Dr. Ho is an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California. She also holds an associate professorship position at the National Taiwan University, Taiwan. Dr. Ho has written textbook chapters, published research articles in peer reviewed journals, and lectured nationally/internationally on topics related to the temporomandibular joint, chronic pain, and general orthopedic disorders. Dr. Ho is an American Physical Therapy Association board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). In addition, Dr. Ho is director and owner of her own private practice, Ho Physical Therapy, in Beverly Hills, California, which she established in 1981 with the goal of providing the best quality care to patients. Under her leadership, Ho Physical Therapy has been a reputable practice in the Beverly Hills area for nearly 40 years. Her specialty is in the areas of head, neck, and temporomandibular joint disorders and chronic pain management. But her expertise extends beyond these areas to include general orthopedic and neurologically challenging conditions.

Adam Lutz, PT, DPT, PhD earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at Louisiana State University. He then attended University of North Florida where he completed his DPT. He subsequently completed his PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences with a focus on Health Services Research at the University of South Carolina. He currently serves as Director of Market Research & Development at ATI Physical Therapy where he teaches in the Orthopedic & Sports Residencies. Michael O’Hara, PT, DPT, OCS is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Temple University. Michael earned his DPT from Temple University in 2014, and subsequently completed an orthopaedic residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center in 2015. Michael is a board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), and serves as a current member of the Specialist Academy for Content Experts (SACE). Michael’s current teaching responsibilities within the DPT program include the musculoskeletal management course series, foundational courses in human anatomy, biomechanics, and therapeutic intervention, and vestibular rehabilitation. He was recently the recipient of the 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award by the College of Public Health. Michael also serves as an instructor in the Temple Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency program. Michael has presented numerous posters, platforms, and lab-based courses for conferences on a local, regional, and national level, and routinely offers continuing education courses on a variety of musculoskeletal topics. Sean P. Riley, PT, DPT, ScD is an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy program at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, USA. He graduated from the University of Connecticut Physical Therapy Program in 2004 and completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Simmons College in 2006. He obtained his Doctor of Science from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in 2013. Sean became board certified in Orthopaedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2007. Sean is also an Associate Editor for The Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy. He is part of the team revising the Clinical Practice Guideline for Adhesive Capsulitis. Sean serves as a research committee member for the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. He has served as a grant reviewer, poster presentation judge, and abstract mentor for research submissions.

Eric K. Robertson, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT is an Associate Professor of clinical physical therapy at both the University of Utah and University of Southern California. Previously, he served as director of graduate physical therapy education for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. Dr. Robertson has taught musculoskeletal physical therapy, pharmacology differential diagnosis, and radiology courses in several physical therapy education programs, and he authored several web-based continuing education courses for entry-level and post-professional physical therapy residency and fellowship programs. Dr. Robertson has expertise in the development and implementation of hybrid and distance-based physical therapy education from entry-level through residency and fellowship education. Dr. Robertson currently serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Physical Therapy Education and is a member of the Standards Committee for the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. Dr. Robertson was also an author for the most recent Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy clinical practice guidelines for patients with neck pain. Dr. Robertson is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy. He received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Quinnipiac University and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Boston University. Amee L. Seitz, PT, PhD, DPT is an Associate Professor and Musculoskeletal Team Leader in the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science, Feinberg School of Medicine, at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. Dr. Seitz has a Bachelor degree in Physical Therapy from Ohio University, an Advanced Masters degree in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and transitional DPT from the MGH IHP, and a PhD in Rehabilitation Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has been an ABPTS board-certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist for the last 20 years. She is a contributing author of the APTA Clinical Practice Guidelines for Adhesive Capsulitis and contributor on the writing panel of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon’s Clinical Practice Guidelines for Rotator Cuff Injuries. She is Past-President of the American Society of Shoulder & Elbow Therapists (ASSET). She mentors PhD students, residents, and fellows. Her research focus seeks to elucidate neuromuscular and biomechanical mechanisms of upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders to improve patient outcomes. Ellen Shanley, PT, PhD, OCS is a clinical research scientist for ATI and serves as the Director of Athletic Injury Research, Prevention, and Education for the South Carolina Center for Effectiveness Research in Orthopedics. She also serves as faculty at the University of South Carolina in the School of Public Health, Clemson University School of Bioengineering, and Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions PhD program. Carol Waggy, PT, PhD, CHT received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from West Virginia University in 1980. She completed a PhD in the Department of Anatomy in December 1995. She joined the West Virginia University Department of Human Performance, Division of Physical Therapy and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Educator/Clinical Track for professional programs. Her teaching and clinical practice has focused on evaluation and treatment of the hand and upper extremity. She received her credentials as a certified hand therapist in 1993. Dr. Waggy has lectured nationally on examination and treatment of the hand and wrist including participation with the Academy of Hand and Upper Extremity Physical Therapy and the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy of the APTA.
