PT in the Community CSM 2025

PT in the Community at CSM 2025

PTs showed up for Houston in a big way. Together, we raised over $23,000 and connected with local organizations to serve communities through movement, education, and service. Here’s a look at what we accomplished during the week of CSM.

Expanding Access to Lifesaving Tools

We trained over 150 CSM attendees in Naloxone (Narcan) administration and distributed over 200 doses. With continued support from TPTA, 10 PTs are now certified trainers who will expand this initiative statewide — including a training at the 2025 TPTA Fall Meeting. PT in the Community also donated funds to the Texas Harm Reduction Alliance, a local organization that works with people across the spectrum of drug use to provide compassionate care, education, and advocacy.

Supporting Older Adults Through Movement & Education

At the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC, we helped older adults take proactive steps toward safer mobility. More than 60 individuals were screened for fall risk, followed by a senior fitness class focused on strength and stability. We also hosted an educational luncheon where local clinicians shared tips on how to safely recover from a fall. To support ongoing efforts, we donated exercise equipment to the center — a collaboration with PT students and faculty from Texas Woman’s University.

Care Bags Assembled for Houston Communities

Volunteers assembled over 250 care bags for individuals in need across Houston. This included 48 Bear Bags for children in CPS care, 20 Feminine Hygiene Bags for Star of Hope’s women’s shelter, 48 Graduate Bags for participants of Bel Inizio’s recovery program, and 150 Essential Supply Bags for Star of Hope. Each bag was thoughtfully packed with items to provide comfort and support.

Meals for Those in Need

PT in the Community volunteers served lunch at Star of Hope’s men’s and women’s shelters, providing both food and conversation to individuals experiencing homelessness. They also assembled over 200 lunch bags to support ongoing meal services for the community.

Supporting the Arts and Inclusion

Volunteers spent time with The River, a local organization that offers accessible arts education for individuals with disabilities and their siblings. PTs helped during rotating classes in acting, music, art, and dance, supporting students and staff alike.

Empowering Women Through Movement and Support

PT in the Community supported Bel-Inizio, a local organization that facilitates 5K training for women who have experienced domestic violence. In collaboration with PT students at Texas Woman's University, we hosted an event with their members. Where participants rotated through several stations of activities, including "Ask a PT" and "Pelvic Health Discussions." Equipment was also purchased to support their programming, including yoga mats, foam rollers, yoga blocks, and resistance bands. We will continue to support their efforts throughout the year.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported our events during CSM 2025. These efforts don’t stop here — we’re continuing collaborations with organizations like TPTA, Texas Woman’s University, and our Houston-based partners to keep the momentum going. Let’s keep showing up — for our profession and for our communities.
